Six Sigma was developed in the 1990s as a universal means of quantifying the strengths and weaknesses of any production system. One key area of focus for any Six Sigma-based evaluation of, say, a production process, is to express, through a mathematical model, what worked and what didn’t. Specifically, the two areas of focus would be minimizing production defects and meeting production quantity targets (without defects) within the amount of time specified by the production target goal.
The Six Sigma model is used to identify what would be the cause of failing to meet the goal, or if the goal is met, the model will show the qualified results in each critical area that produced success. Companies in almost every industry are turning to Six Sigma as a universal method for solving everyday problems from the customer service center to the warehouse and the assembly line. For job seekers in Memphis and anywhere in Tennessee, Six Sigma training will help open doors to new jobs.

When choosing a Six Sigma program for the Memphis area, focus on your area of expertise and also on the industry you work in or want to work in. Some companies and industries may only be interested in one Six Sigma belt color but will want you to also get trained in lean methods. Others may only be focused on your belts.
Different programs may be tailored for specific industries and the lean methods of those industries. If your profession is education, your focus will be different than if your profession is in the automotive field, even though both industries have Lean and Six Sigma programs. You can usually find a program that will allow you to take classes online and which you can complete at your own pace. But the sooner you are certified, the sooner you can access employers that may not have noticed you before.
If you seek to be a quality expert who will develop specific quality assurance programs, a green belt program will probably be most appropriate. If you seek to be a manager who will supervise other Six Sigma trained professionals, you’ll likely need to enter a master black belt training program. This may take a bit more time, but will give you an advantage, as you’ll be qualified to supervise subordinates who have specific belt credentials.
